a morning out, and Saint Teresa of Avila

A morning out with a friend and both our babies. I laugh at myself when I think how thrilled I was to be walking around the mall for several hours, trying on clothes I couldn't buy, and drinking a latte.

But also, resounding in my head as we passed shop after shop full of things no one needs were these words from Saint Teresa of Avila:

Thank God for the things I do not own.

I can't pretend to be immune to the lure of pretty clothes (that perhaps fit). I want all of them. But I don't want to want them, and it's a mercy I can't buy any, because who knows who I would become.
