we had visitors at church this morning who had six children, oldest age ten. five boys, one girl. of course i immediately said something about how hard boys are (hoping for a kindred spirit of some kind), and how i need this next baby to be a girl. for my sanity. she seemed like she understood.
"i had this friend," she said, "who was having lots of little girls in a row while i was having all these boys. whenever i would go visit her, their house would be destroyed in 30 seconds flat (by my boys). meanwhile, my friend and i would sit in the living room, nursing our babies, while all her little girls sat in a row on the couch, pretending to nurse their baby dolls. it was unbelievable."
i know, i'm probably kidding myself about girls being easier. please, if you have several little girls close together, feel free to tell me how hard it is. i will try to believe you, i really will. i know i don't deal with the emotional issues that come with having girls, or the drama, or the incessant chattering. and maybe all my babies after this will be girls and i will come back to posts like this and laugh, and eat my words. again. i'm getting awfully good at that.
meanwhile, i'm going to muster my energy while they are sleeping, and get ready for their waking. they are wonderful, truly. and we all have a better time when i'm energetic.
