on the church

elisabeth wrote the best post about the church.  it was convicting to read. it describes so aptly what so many of my young generation think and feel regarding the church: we're christians, yes, but we don't like the term "christian" because it has too much negative baggage.  we go to church (sometimes), but we don't see a need to join or be committed to a local community of believers.  we're too intelligent and critical to simply worship with those broken, hypocritical people.  after all, we've been hurt by them.  and if the church isn't perfect, we shouldn't have to deal with it.

josh always says, regardless of their flaws and hypocrisies or the way they've hurt us, we are never to disown our own family.  let's not give up on the local church--it's the main vehicle through which God has chosen to build his kingdom.

please go read.
