if you've never dyed clothes, you should try it sometime.   at least for humor's sake.

see all those lovely colors above?  they used to be bland colors like these:

so, we got to work.

and things didn't go too well:

(no one told us silk edging doesn't dye)

so, we worked some more.

and ransom watched (after a while we took him inside because of the fumes):

...and things began to look up!

 we got a little help from the handsome husband.

the colors never quite turn out how the box says they will-- see all those pinks?  they're supposed to be a sophisticated, deep wine color.  instead, we got something closer to kindergarten fuchsia.  ah well, still an improvement.

and anyway, even if it had been a total flop, a day spent with lovely elisabeth would never be a waste.  we're trying to squeeze in every bit of hang-out time we can before school begins (all too soon). next up for us: tea tasting!  i've just ordered some beautiful teas from this amazing site.
